Mary Wright

Working from her studio in Sevenoaks, Kent, Mary Wright exhibits largely through the UK’s rich network of ceramics fairs and independent galleries. Wright’s online presence reaches international audiences. 

Her practice is informed by Korean Buncheong ware, though she interprets rather than replicates these traditions. A common theme for all of her work is her passion for the natural world. This is paired with inspiration from textile design in her Midsummer Collection of functional ceramics. With her new work, the interplay between function and expressive mark making is a key feature, stemming from ideas around impermanence and the relationship with the natural world. Her work can be seen as being part of the ongoing and evolving Anglo-Oriental ceramic dialogue.
